ellie

When we set this appointment up Ellie’s mom said she would be fine in the cold; they really didn’t want to wait any longer. Who knew it could be 66 degrees in January?

It was a beautiful (if maybe a little too windy) day. Stacey (Femme Fab) rocked the makeup. And Ellie and her mom showed up with a truckload of great clothes and incredible accessories for us to choose from. Add to that a beautiful, talented, kind and friendly girl and you have a photographer’s dream.

365 Project

I started a 365 project on January 1. Some of you may remember a similar project I did a while ago. It was hard. Maybe not so much in the beginning, but by the end I was ready for a break.

For Christmas this year I took all those images and put them in a book. As I was going through them I was struck by the way the series told the story of my year, even though that was never the intent and was not at all in my mind as I was taking them.

Last year I didn’t take a lot of photos for myself. It was a busy, good year but what I have to show for it is mostly pictures of other people’s children and other people’s lives. Lovely pictures, but nothing I will want to look back on in five years.

in 2012 I will be intentional about photographing my life. A picture a day. My gift to myself. Every day should have something worth remembering. Some days will be more interesting, more colorful, more light-filled than others, and those images I will try to post here.

I hope all of you will consider a gift like this for yourselves. You don’t need to start on January 1 and there are several online sites that make it so easy. At 365Project you can use your camera phone and email one in each day. And if you miss a day, they don’t get mad at you. Does it get any easier than that?

julie + phil

Julie and Phil have been friends for a very long time. Long before all these little people started showing up. I don’t see them nearly as often these days (they are a little busy), but when we get back together it’s always as if no time has passed. Such wonderful people, truly.
