Try as I might, I only got two smiles out of this little guy. Both were so unexpected I missed the darn focus. Sometimes it just happens that way. Especially when they’ve just discovered walking. There are so many more interesting things than me in the world!

What do you get when you have a precious, pouty-lipped newborn who sleeps for two hours straight and a knock-out three year old who thinks he’s a pirate? The photo shoot every photographer dreams about and too many images to edit. Thanks, guys, for a wonderful afternoon.
Jake
We see this all the time so you’d think we’d get used to it by now. Kids grow. But I wasn’t prepared for Jake. The first time we met him he was less than a week old, teeny tiny and wonderfully sleepy. This time he didn’t miss a thing, quietly watching every move we made. You can tell he’s going to be a smart one.
We popped him back into the green birdbath bowl and reposted one of his newborn images just so you can see the difference.
Laila!
Talk about sweet. Laila showed up in her jammies, straight off a three hour car ride to our studio, and she was ready to go. We popped her into the old metal bucket for a few naked shots and she went to town, banging the handle and rocking herself on its wobbly base. I think mom will have a new game to play once they get home!
Brooklyn
Look what I got to do today.
When a baby comes to the studio I try not to hold them until after the session, I like it when they’re still a little curious about me for the first few pictures and then change their expressions as they figure out I’m ok. It took every bit of my self control not to just scoop her up when Brooklyn’s mom pulled her out of her car seat and offered her to me.
We had a great shoot (with the help of big brother, Braden) and as soon as it was over she was all mine. Thanks, guys, for a wonderful start to the new year!
(And a big thanks to my father-in-law, who let me steal the old bucket from his shop.)
